About Me

Emily is a London based designer who graduated in 2009 from the University for the Creative Arts (Rochester). Since graduating she has spent 8 months travelling the world and gained inspiration from countries far and wide. As a person she is fascinated with food and this gives her the inspiration for most of her work with the overall aim to design pieces that will improve people’s overall experience of eating. Be it a talking point of the table, an object that physically brings people together or simply a piece that makes food look more appealing. There seems to be a disappearing element of social contact at the dinner table and she wishes to help revive this. Emily mainly works with semi porcelain and plaster, ensuring that all element of her work are completely handmade, this is also true for her glazes. JJAM - 'Everyday Delights' compeition

This is possibly the strangest competition I have ever entered but the outcome was very satisfying! The idea was to create a piece of work using the very ordinary yellow duster. There were no rules and no limits, which made it all the more fun. Although I have never done any work with fabric or sewing I was excited to create something different with the overall goal to be selected to show at TENT London in September.

My neckpiece entitled 'Spring Bling' is a quirky take on the term spring cleaning. My aim was to turn a mundane object into one that can be worn and enjoyed. It is decorated with flowers, ribbons and skipping spring lambs and i hope that somebody gives them a good home when it goes for auction at the end of the show because hooray for me, i have been selected.

Internship - Shan Valla

I have recently started an internship with London based designer Shan Valla who specialises in luxury interior accessories. Her work ranges from glass to ceramics and all her objects are beautiful, playful and functional. I hope that by working with a designer who has already achieved so much will give me new ideas and inspiration. She has successfully set up her own studio and has won too many awards to mention! Shan really is doing what i dream to be doing one day although...im well aware, that its not all glamour!
