About Me

Emily is a London based designer who graduated in 2009 from the University for the Creative Arts (Rochester). Since graduating she has spent 8 months travelling the world and gained inspiration from countries far and wide. As a person she is fascinated with food and this gives her the inspiration for most of her work with the overall aim to design pieces that will improve people’s overall experience of eating. Be it a talking point of the table, an object that physically brings people together or simply a piece that makes food look more appealing. There seems to be a disappearing element of social contact at the dinner table and she wishes to help revive this. Emily mainly works with semi porcelain and plaster, ensuring that all element of her work are completely handmade, this is also true for her glazes. She has recently started an internship with recognised glass and ceramic designer Shan Valla and additionally works for a web developing company in Clerkenwell London.

'Debut' Exhibition - RBSA Gallery Birmingham

I was offered a place at this exhibition shortly after New designers where an interest was expressed in my Dessert bowl collection. The gallery thought they would be ideal for the Christmas market and i am delighted to be a part of it. The exhibition goes on right through the festive season until the beginning of January next year so hopefully my bowls will make the perfect Christmas present for somebody!

Greenwich Market debut

And so, i fullfilled a life long dream of having my own stall at greenwich market. Yes, it may not be a big deal to some but i have been a visitor for many years and have always wondered what it would be like to sell my own work. My friend and i had a great experience and it was nice to see people looking at our pieces and buying them with a smile. We are planning to go again on a weekend as its much busier and a lot more crafty. A great day and a great oppurtunity.

My first exhibition - 'New Designers 2009'

After attending New Designers for many years it felt amazing to finally be an exhibitor rather than a visitor. The atmosphere was overwhelming with so many people and so much talent! I had a great experience and also made some valueable contacts and friends. I would like to thank everybody who showed and interest in my pieces an also for all the nice compliments and feedback. Getting to this point has been very hard but this exhibition left me very optimistic about the future. Design world..here i come.

'Mate Plate'

The Mate plate was made in order to bring back the social element to the dinner table. The plates, joined in the middle force conversation. Two people are sharing from one plate. Many people have said that it is like a lovers plate, perhaps something used on a romantic evening. However, i designed it to be used by total strangers as a way of two people getting to know one another. Ideally, my aim would be for people to begin a meal as strangers and leave as friends.

Dessert & Ice cream bowls - 'Sweet treats'

The idea for this collection of bowls stems from the confusion faced when there are too many elements to a dinner table/party. Specifically designed for desserts, the bases and colours provide the consumer with a subtle instruction with regards to what the bowl should be used for. This collection includes berries, fruit, chocolate and ice cream and the transfers on the bases reflect this.

Jugs - 'Three's a crowd'

When making these jugs they took on their own personality. It was like they all wanted to be used and held and this is apparent through their shape. Each jug has finger indentations that allow them to fit nicely into the hand and as a group they interact very well. Ideally they are to be used for milk but of course they could be vases or simply ornamental.
